Horse Packing in Pictures
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (June, 1991)
Author: Francis W. Davis
Average review score:

Easy to follow, great illustrations, perfect for beginners!
I just got my hands on this book and can't wait to get some rope and try knots and hitches. The drawings are great and it is easy to make sense of what many other books try to put into words. The drawings are skillfully done to illustrate exactly what is being taught. It says in the back of the book, that this manual was originally intended and used as a textbook for people taking packing classes. Therefore it was designed for practical learning. I'm sure once I finally get out into the woods, that this valuable reference book will be muddy, tattered, dog-eared, but well packed into my mules panniers! I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone interested in packing, especially those just starting out!

Best horse packing book ever!
I use "Packing in Pictures" as a text book for the horse packing course I teach at Casper College each year. It provides easy to follow drawings on each hitch, knot and procedure. My past students tell me that it a great brush up after not using the various hitches for some time. Best book out on the market!!

Houseplants and Indoor Gardening (Black & Decker Outdoor Home Series)
Published in Paperback by Creative Publishing International (01 November, 2001)
Authors: Julie Bawden-Davis, John M. Rickard, and Julie B. Davis
Average review score:

What a wealth of knowledge!!!!
This is a great book! The author is apparently an extremely knowledgable indoor gardener and she shares this information in an easy to read enjoyable book. All aspects of indoor gardening are covered from decorating with plants, care and requirements, planting and placement. Included in the book is an encyclopedia of common houseplants with plant requirements and pictures to help you identify all those plants you never knew the names of!! If you have houseplants this book is a MUST.

Houseplants & Indoor Gardening
This book is GREAT!!!! Growing up my mother always had silk plants about the house that were not attractive. Come to find out later in my life she had tried living houseplants but somehow killed them once they were in her home. If she had this book she would have not had that problem!

When I had a home of my own I vowed that I would not succumb to her tactics with plants. I love the look and ambiance of living plants and was determined to have many of my own. Over the years I have become a more avid gardener and have always loved indoor houseplants. Although I have become a better indoor gardener it seemed that I still had my mother's knack of being able to swiftly kill some plants until I came across the Black and Decker series book, "Houseplants & Indoor Gardening". This book gives you so much information for decorating your home with houseplants it is unbelievable. After reading this book I quickly was able to identify some quick targets of my plants demise. One was as simple as the selection of plants when buying them in the nursery. It is a great reference tool that I use almost daily. I really love the encyclopedia of Common Houseplants which breaks all the specifications and growing conditions needed for certain plants. Overall I have found this book to be invaluable. A must have if you want you indoor garden to flourish!!!!!!

How to Live with Your Parents Without Losing Your Mind
Published in Paperback by Zondervan (26 August, 1988)
Author: Ken Davis
Average review score:

Great for Jr. High kids
Ken Davis has a very good sense of humor that helps us look at our everyday problems and situations and he gives us ideas on how to make the best of it. I used it for our Jr. High Bible class and it was a good conversation starter and problem solver.

How to keep your sanity while preserving your kids'
This is a great book for any youth leader. It provides sensative and thoughtful insight into how hard it is for teenagers growing up in today's world. All too often, adults forget that they, too, were once teenagers.

This book uses sound Biblical references in trying to show teenagers that they are: 1) not alone, 2) their parents DO love them and 3) their parents are not out to get them!

I am using this book for an 8-week Bible study with 9-12 graders at my church for Sunday School. They found the 2nd chapter about the inside of your parents' minds hilarious and helpful. Yes, they DO believe there is a microchip in their parents' brains that is programmed to ruin their lives and their fun! The chapter on sibling relationships is equally well-done.

I think this book is providing good food for thought for my kids about how to survive in their families and make a difference, not only in their families, but in the world as young disciples of the Risen Lord.

How to Make Multi-Blade Folding Knives
Published in Paperback by Krause Publications (May, 1997)
Authors: Terry Davis, Eugene W. Shadley, and Terry Oates
Average review score:

The last word on multi-blade folding knives
The names of the authors (Shadley and Davis) would be instantly recognizable to knife collectors as the recognized masters of the multi-blade pocket knife, perhaps the most challenging project for beginning knifemakers. As far as I know, this is the only book in print that addresses multi-blade knifemaking directly, and thus am pleased to find that it turned out to be a great buy.

This book describes in detail the whole process of design, construction, and finishing these mechanical marvels. The text is precise, complete, and most importantly for the non-enthusiast, refreshingly readable (light on knife jargon). Illustrated with clear diagrams and pictures on every important step and generously endowed with hints and expert advice from the authors, this book is a classic on this specialized topic. If you have any interest in pocket knives or have ever wondered just how much craftsmanship goes into making one of these knives by hand, you'll be glad you bought this book.

A really usefull guide.
If you was ever intrigued by the multi-bladed folding knives, and wanted to know how to make your own, believe me - this is the book you need. I'm proud to have this book - since it showed me, exactly, how to design and construct all the little multi-bladed fascinating tools I ever wanted. If you want to make your folding knives too, buy this book and back to the bench! And good luck!

Hurray for Christopher: The Story of a Maine Coon Cat
Published in Paperback by Gannett Books (June, 1986)
Authors: Virginia Langley and Pat Davis
Average review score:

Hurray For Christopher! by Virginia Langley
Excellent for my summer program! It should teach children to be proud to be from the state of Maine. It also teaches children to be proud of their heritage, no matter what it is. We have Coon cats visiting us at the library. I can't seem to find any information about the author and would like to know more about her, where she is from etc. We have other books by her and are certainly keeping them as I see they are out of print.

A wonderful book!
This childrens' book about the life of a sea-going Maine Coon Cat should be in the library of everybody who loves Maine Coons. Delightful illustrations and lovely story.

Step aside Chicken Soup !
What better sentiment than to be told you are loved. This is a book that will make you laugh and cry. It is a great gift too. You can add your own I Am Loved story at the back to make it a special keepsake for a friend or relative. What a great way to say the toughest three words that are not said nearly enough... sometimes we wait until it is too late. Be sure to get some buttons too at their website ...

Compelling Brief Stories of Warmth and Humour
This "fast read" includes touching stories of love expressed in many ways written by people from different walks of life, from corporate leaders, to psychologists, housewives, etc.It is interesting how the emotion of love is translated in so many ways, yet notwithstanding one's station in life---an emotion we all need and relate to.It is enjoyable to read, and is a well received gift.

I'm In The Mood For Food: In The Kitchen With Garfield
Published in Hardcover by Andrews McMeel Publishing (March, 2003)
Author: Jim Davis
Average review score:

Silly me, I thought I was buying this for our son!
Our son loves to cook. He also loves Garfield. He is living away from home during his college break, and, being an ever concerned mother, when I saw this book I thought what a great book to send to our son for his summer fun, and it could be a great survival book. I picked it up out of a sense of fun and mother's happiness, and, to my delight, I found a serious cook book lay deliciously hidden beneath the cover. Ahh, "Decadent Roasted Blue Chees Potatoes," "Magnifico Mushroom Risotto," "Beat Me. Whip Me. Make Me Eat Rosemary Scalloped Potatoes," ah yes, like the great Native American Tradition, this is a book for the Heyokas out there, and the jesters. It is cooking with heart, with fun, and what fellow or gal with a great sense of humor and a great palate wouldn't just love the greatness of this hidden treasure book of fun and food.

Of course, there is ever-practical advice, such as Garfied's Fine Dining Faux Pas (Lord only knows who your child might be dating, and they can kindly leave this page open so that the "would-be date" will not embarrass your child while dining in a fine establishment). Thus, the advice, and this is just one of many, that one should not gargle with your aperitif, could simply be one of many saving graces.

I highly recommend this book. I readily admit I have kept the copy I bought for our son, and ordered many more for the rest of our children so that after a hard day, they may laugh and cook and be oh so glad to have an outrageous mother who has taught them love, laughter, and fine dining make for a happier day.

I'm Not Okay
Published in Audio Cassette by Oasis Audio (July, 2000)
Author: Ken Davis
Average review score:

I'm Not Okay, either.
I first listened to this was in audio, in my car on the way to work. I laughed so hard, people probably thought I was nuts. Ken Davis can make a point like no one else I have ever heard. One moment your laughing till the tears roll, then you're crying because of the truth he has just made you see - not just in ourselves, but in all people. I have listened to the tape many times, and it has not yet failed to teach me that God loves me in spite of myself.
I just loved it. My husband loves it and we have shared it with many of our friends, all with the same result. They love it!

Wonderful Reflections From a Master Communicator!
Ken Davis is Not OK! I am not OK! But that is OK!! What Ken Davis wonderfully illustrates is that while no one in this world is OK, God loves us anyway. Ken gives a great inspirational message wrapped in side splitting humor. This is a video for everyone in the family, from teenagers to seniors, everyone will laugh. He shows us all how to laugh at ourselves and not to take the world too seriously. I highly recommend this video to anyone who could use a little break from the stress of the day. In other words, everyone!

I'm Ready For My Rainbow
I'm Ready For My Rainbow is a collection of thought provoking, heart warming poetry. The reader is ispired and uplifted for having spent time with this small volume. It is a book worth reading many times over.

Meditations on the struggle and the answers
Excellent Christian poetry. Joy speaks of heart issues that we, especially women, deal with. She doesn't stop with identifying the areas of struggle, but completes the circle by leading us to Christ where the answers are. Makes a great gift especially high school age and up.

Authors: Deirdre Davis Brigham, Adelaide Davis, Derry Cameron-Sampey, and Deidre D. Brigham
Average review score:

An indispensible guide to improving one's outlook on life.
This book inspired me to attend the Getting Well program in Orlando founded and ran by the author, Dee Brigham, following major surgery. This book and the concepts therein summarize what is addressed during the program, and is an invaluable asset towards avoiding negative behavior and towards getting healthy again.

An excellent book for patients and practitioners
This book offers a comprehensive collection of practical strategies and case histories for anyone seeking to discover what behavioural medicine and psychoneuroimmunology can offer to a patient confronting a life threatening or 'quality of life' threatening condition. To the medical professional or therapist it is compelling and essential reading.
